Kevin Elsken started the meeting at 7:14 PM with a slideshow of his trip to Europe. Keith Linn opened the meeting with a toast.

  • Kevin Elsken thanked David Johnson for hosting the meeting in his absence last month.
  • Kevin Elsken made a PSA about real Kölsch that has no coconut, lime, or jalapeño.

Beers were introduced and an intermission taken to sample the beers.

Home Brew Showcase

  • May 10 in Siloam Springs
  • Keith presented a tribute to Jack McAuliffe for his induction into the American Craft Beer Hall of Fame.

Big Brew Day

  • May 3 at Fossil Cove
  • There was a small turnout but a good time was had. Members took wort home to ferment.

Weiz Guys Big Brew Day Competition

  • 1 entry per club
  • Entries due September 1–October 21, with the competition on November 8
  • Winner featured in Zymurgy and chooses a charity for the proceeds

Iron Brewer Competition

  • Q1 2025: Irish Stout (15B) results:
    • 1st place: Randy Germann (absent)
    • 2nd place: Doc Farmer (absent)
    • 3rd place: Ken Gill (absent)
  • Q2 2025: Kentucky Common (27), due July 1, 2025 at OZ
  • Q3 2025: Doppelbock (9A), due October 7, 2025 at FLOPS
  • Q4 2025: Belgian Dark Strong (26D), due January 15, 2026 at OZ

Membership Renewal

  • Members who haven’t yet paid their 2025 dues need to see Chris Abel, Treasurer.

NWA Food Bank

  • OZ members did a service project Saturday 9–11 AM, and FLOPS members were invited, with a social afterwards.

AHA’s Independence

  • The AHA has hired an association management company.

  • Ric Bailey presented on building electric brewing systems.

Miscellaneous

  • Keith made a motion to have a social on June 7 at Fossil Cove for their anniversary party. Motion was seconded and approved by a vote.
  • David Johnson mentioned that some OZ folks are planning a weekend trip with brewery tours around the July 11 Hop-Off event.
  • Keith Linn mentioned the recent Zymurgy issue has some ancient-style recipes which may be of interest for the Hop-Off event.
  • Daniel Stubblefield mentioned that Mad Rooster is interested in doing a “King for a Day”-style event with FLOPS.
  • Matt Daniels hosted a brew-in on Saturday, May 17.
