April 2023 Monthly Meeting Minutes

7:18 PM – Meeting called to order with toast by our 2023 Mug Watcher, Keith Linn.

 

New Attendees

Ty (Tyrel) Weston- from Huntsville, welcome! Brought homebrew, even more welcome!!

Officer Reports

Hop Scheduler:

  • Big Brew Day is May 6 th . There will be an event hosted by Doc Farmer. Looking to get 20+ people in attendance.
  • May 13th is Homebrew Showcase in Siloam Springs.
  • The Mid State Brewery Challenge is a competition in Murfreesboro, TN. Includes a ‘Think You Can Brew’ category where you will be assigned to brew a specific style.
  • Rare Earth Spring Brew off (OKC, June)
  • Summer Smash (St. Louis, June)
  • Open Season in Ozark, MO
  • Fest Beer Competition, winners will have their Fest Brew made by GOAT Lab
  • Orthodox Brewery in Goshen opened last month. Several members have visited, reported excellent beers in a bucolic setting.

Old Business

Iron Brewer Competition was April 4th, style was Hazy IPA.
1st – Keith Linn
2nd – Larry McCallister
3rd – Greg Newman

Big Paws Brew social was March 31 at Boston Mountain Brewing.

New Business

A motion was made to donate $100 toward food a Big Brew Day. Motion was seconded and approved.

Larry won a 2nd place medal at Blue Bonnet competition.

FLOPS 30th Birthday Party and Bugs! Beer! and Birthday Cake at Keith Linn’s house on April 29. From 6 pm until Orkin arrives.

Keith commented on thoughts from the recently formed Finance Committee:
– Need to define mission and purpose
– Improve reporting
– Define a budget

 

Motion was made to name Ben Mills as an Honorary Member of the FLOPS Homebrew Club, due to his great support of our club and his love for beer and a good time. Motion was seconded and approved.

Education

Patrick Bohannon gave a presentation on Saison and how to brew it.
