Tom Maddock opened meeting with congratulations to Keith Linn for his Gold Medal in the National Homebrew Competition for his New England IPA.
Tom also encouraged members to join American Homebrewers Association.
Results of last round of Iron Brewer Competition with Oz Brew Club, Keith Linn finished 1st and Tom Maddock finished 3rd place.
Keith reported he is still trying to connect with Ivory Bill Brewing to pitch the idea of a barrel brew.
New Business
Tom reiterated that there will be a table available at Brewtober for Oz and Flops to advertise. Volunteers that man the booth will get a free Brewtober ticket.
Insurance has been paid for the year.
Filing of Non-profit report is done.
Brewtober has been registered as BJCP sanctioned event, judges will earn points.
Keith Linn mentioned a new brewery is being planned for Lowell and they are looking for a head brewer.
Natural State Brewing is having a fundraiser (Aletruistic Octoberfest?) on September 18 from 1:00 until 10:00 pm. They are looking for servers, if interested contact BJ from Oz.
Also Fayetteville Octoberfest has been officially cancelled. There is an event planned in Little Rock on November 14th that will have space for homebrewers.
Education
Brian Sorensen, author of Arkansas Beer as well as a freelance beer writer, gave an excellent presentation on the history and status of brewing in Arkansas
Ass of the Month
Unanimous vote for Kevin “there are not the droids you are looking for” Elsken for using his Jedi mind tricks to convince attendees at Greg Newman’s social that Greg’s wife was named Sandy. Even the Russian judge was heard to say, “Da, guilty!”.

June 17, 2021

New beer cards and trays in use for the first time.
7:15 PM – Meeting called to order with toast by Forrest

Tom Maddock opened meeting by reviewing procedural changes aimed at reducing the business portion of the meeting down to 30 minutes maximum. The biggest change is the addition of the beer cards and the elimination of beer introductions during the business segment of the meeting. There was also strong encouragement to stop side conversations during the business portion of the meeting so that we can get onto the drinking portion of the meeting.
Voting for Brewer of the Month – each attendee should vote twice, and can vote for the same beer.
Officer Reports
Keith Linn – Education – Brian Sorenson will present a talk on the history of beer in Arkansas at the July meeting. Also Keith is still working with Jack McAuliffe to finalize a recipe for brewing a big barleywine.
Treasurer – Chris Abel – we have money to pay insurance dues. Tom reminded us to note if we are members of the AHA, as they will pay the insurance if 75% of FLOPS members belong to AHA
Greg Newman – Social – looking for brewer profiles. Also encouraged continued Facebook participation. Greg is planning an End of Covid social event at his place, July 10th at 2 pm
Randy German – Hop Scheduler – calendar on website has been updated with events. Also a potential event to include FLOPS, OZ, and ZOO. We agreed to consider, but put off any decisions until we got back on schedule with the normal Iron Brewer competition.

This was our second meeting at Core Brewing. Direct any comments or suggestions to Tom or any of the officers, or if you have an idea for a better location please let us know.

There are Octoberfests planned for Bentonville, Fayetteville, and at Natural State Brewing. There may be a table set aside for homebrewers at Fayetteville?

Brewtoberfest is October 9th. More details to come.
National Homebrew Competition – winners will be announced during Homebrew Conference in June.
FLOPS vs. OZ Homebrew competition is Amber Ale. This will be judged at OZ meeting July 6th at Natural State Brewing.
Keith Linn – Education – encouraged brewers to submit topics of interest for education presentations
Core Brewing has SS Brewtech system available to interested parties.

Larry McCalister reported OZ is planning to fill a wine barrel that their club has acquired.
New Business – set up officers meeting to discuss club scope – should we reach out to new members who are interested in craft beer and beer tasting but not necessarily in brewing?
Randy German proposed Homebrew Showcase in Siloam Springs as next social. Motion was seconded and approved.
8:05 pm Keith motioned to end meeting discussion and proceed woth tasting and judging. Motion seconded and approved.

Points towards Brewer/Ass/Member of the Year have started accruing again. I will publish the points guide once I find it 🙂 .
It has been established that members can vote multiple times for the above categories.
Full meeting minutes should be available as soon as the new club secretary Kevin Eslken gets them prepped.
It sure was nice seeing everyone in person, and all the amazing samples folks brought. Larry McAllister needed a trailer for all his contributions.
